Welcome Dr Peter Elton, DMD

March 20th, 2012

Peter M. Elton DMD

I find great satisfaction in providing state-of-the-art dental care while calming the apprehensive patient, both young and old.  Making meaningful and enduring connections with people is the highlight of my experience in dentistry.  I look forward to building those relationships in my hometown, working with the exceptional team at Puyallup Valley Dental Care.”

Dr. Elton spent his childhood traveling to various parts of the world with his military family.  Settling in Puyallup, he attended Rogers High School, graduating in 1997.  He enjoyed soccer, springboard diving and orchestra, playing the upright bass.

He attended Brigham Young University where he received a Bachelor of Science in Zoology.  As president of the BYU Pre-Dental Society, he pioneered an international dental humanitarian project and organized two expeditions to the Galapagos Islands of Ecuador.  The group of 120 volunteers provided dental and medical care to over 3000 patients.

While attending Brigham Young University, Dr. Elton worked as a research assistant for Clinical Research Associates, one of the world’s premier dental research facilities under the direction of Dr. Gordon Christensen.

Dr. Elton received his Doctorate of Dental Medicine Cum Laude from Boston University’s Goldman School of Dental Medicine.  At graduation, he was recognized by the faculty and awarded for his clinical abilities in prosthetic dentistry.

He was commissioned as a Captain in the US Army Dental Corps and served our country for four years, at clinics in Landstuhl, Germany as well as at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington.  While in Landstuhl, he provided treatment in a hospital setting for soldiers who were evacuated from Iraq and Afghanistan with medical and dental combat injuries.

Dr. Elton complements Puyallup Valley Dental Care with his skill and knowledge in oral surgery, implant placement and restoration, root canals, and cosmetic dentistry.  He is certified in Invisalign™ (clear braces).  He is a member of the Academy of General Dentistry.

Dr. Hall saying goodbye to Puyallup Valley Dental Care

February 1st, 2012

After 6 years of providing excellent care for our patients at Puyallup Valley Dental Care, Dr. Elizabeth Hall will be moving to a different practice. Her last day in our office will be Friday, February 10. She will be at a practice two days per week in Tacoma as well as continuing to be a dedicated wife, and mother to her two boys. We will miss her, but our service to our patients and community will not be diminished. The search for another dentist is already underway, to help us take care of our expanding practice. We will keep you notified of future changes on our web site, Facebook, Twitter as well as email notices. We thank all of you for your continuing support of Dr. Urback and the staff at Puyallup Valley Dental Care as we wish all the best to Dr. Hall!

Principal Kristen Schroeder on The Ellen Show!

January 12th, 2012

Principal Kristen Schroeder was at home while healing from surgery when she saw the “12 Days of Giveaways” on The Ellen Show.” Kristen was so inspired by the enthusiasm of the audience that she devised a program with her staff at James Sales Elementary to give the 400 or so students a gift every day leading up to winter break.

The “Ellen” show and Target provided a $100,000 grant after hearing about the students, staff and school’s 12 Days of Hope program, which began two years ago. Mrs. Schroeder was invited to share her story on The Ellen Show on January 5, 2012. Follow this link to watch her segment. http://ellen.warnerbros.com/videos/index.php?mediaKey=0_6pu6zx69

To learn more about Life’s Handy Work please read the following story about how this organization came together and what a difference they are making for the children of Nepal.

From the Beginning

During the summer of 2009 Laura Handy-Nimick traveled to Nepal to volunteer at Nepal Orphans Home (NOH). Laura spent most of her time living and working with ex-Kamlaris, girls who were rescued from indentured servitude. NOH provides these girls with a loving home, a good education and the support they need to realize their dreams. While Laura was there she fell in love with the children and people of NOH leaving her with a strong desire to help them continue to grow even after she returned home. As a wedding gift Justin’s brother Jared and his family gave Laura and Justin a website as a place to share their volunteer work with family and friends which quickly blossomed into Life’s Handy Work, an organization to support the children of NOH.

In July of 2011 Justin and Laura returned to Nepal together.  Justin found the children to be as kind, loving and smart as Laura did when she volunteered in 2009.  During their time in Nepal Justin found a deep respect for the people of Dhapasi and the staff at the NOH homes.  They both enjoyed spending time with Michael and the children and spent much of their time teaching dance, computer lessons, tutoring and playing outside. They received cooking lessons from the boys home and a spent a day trekking around Kathmandu in search of a dry to ward of damp clothes during monsoon season. The trip was a success and cemented the love they both felt for the people of Nepal, the children and NOH.  Both Laura and Justin came back to Washington with a renewed energy to make Life's Handy Work a success.

The Healthy Eating Plate replaces the Health Eating Pyramid. The 12th-century philosopher Maimonides said, "No disease that can be treated by diet should be treated with any other means." The National Cholesterol Education Program advocates a diet that is low to moderate in total fat and low in saturated fat, cholesterol, sodium and calories to attain and maintain a healthful weight. Our clinical team promotes a healthy lifestyle to help you reduce your risk of developing cardiovascular disease and improve your systemic and oral health.
